One Step Too Far - Lisa Gardner

This book kept me up way to late several nights in a row. If I didn’t have four kids and a day job, I would have finished it in one sitting. The suspense was a 5/5 and it kept me guessing right up until the end. This is the second novel in Gardner’s Frankie Elkin series – I did not know that before I read it, but it didn’t matter at all. Gardner provided just enough of a recap of Elkin’s backstory to know what was needed without providing a full recap of the first novel (Before She Disappeared). Cliff Notes: Elkin is a recovering alcoholic that spends her life searching for those that have been forgotten by the public/police/media. Cold cases. I love a good cold case, and so does Elkin. She doesn’t let anything stop her, which often leads to her being in the center of the danger. I have made a note to read Before She Disappeared and have also made note that the third novel in the series, Still See You Everywhere, is set to be released in March 2024.

Educated: A Memoir - Tara Westover

Loved, Loved, Loved!  This is about Tara Westover and her ability to see her life through new eyes and the determination to change her life. She was born in the mountains of Idaho and raised by survivalists. She never set foot in a classroom, doctor’s office, or hospital. Tara took her education into her own hands and her desire for knowledge eventually landed her at BYU. Family loyalty, self-determination, and grief are so closely intertwined throughout. Reads like a novel more than a memoir.

The Plot - Jean Hanff Korelitz

Do you ever wonder how authors come up with their plots? I do. All the time. This is about a struggling author who stumbles across a storyline that he knows will instantly be a bestseller. He knows he cannot pass it up and publishes it as if it was his own. He thought no one would know. He was wrong. A compulsive page turning novel that will keep you guessing about which plot is the real plot.

Pieces of Her - Karin Slaughter

Karen Slaughter is one of those authors that doesn’t disappoint. Pieces of Her has been made increasingly popular since it became a Netflix Series, but as with most shows, it doesn’t do the book justice….in my opinion. It’s a story of thinking you know someone but finding out you don’t actually know them at all. You know pieces of them – the pieces they want you to know. She has been living a quiet life hoping that nobody from her past would recognize her. A tragic event makes her identity and whereabouts known and leads her daughter on a journey of learning about her Mother’s past while trying to stay alive herself. I have read this book several times, and still love it just as much as the first time I read it.
